Attaching patches

3 ways to attach patches and badges on clothes:
⌖ Sew-on patches - the best way for permanent and safe application. You have to place the patch in the location where you want to sew the patch into place. Use invisible thread or matched thread colors;
⌖ Next method is Velcro. It is very easy and convenient way of attaching patches, in case if you need to affix some patches on the same place, similar by shape, but different by content;
⌖ Iron on patches with the adhesive on the back of the patch. This type of patch can be attached either on garment or on the pre-made fabric. The best way to adhere iron on patches is using heat press machine. Keep in mind that using just iron your patch will not stay for a long time.

How to sew on patches:

Hand sew
You will need a scissors, the iron, sharp pins or a piece of chalk and needle with a thread.
Here's some tips:
Usually embroidered patches are shrink resistant, their edges come prefinished and does not fray.
The best way to attach your patch it is by sewing a straight stitch all the way around the edge of the patch.
If your patch with no edging then you have to trim away excess of the fabric. Be advised, in order to avoid fraying of the patch you have to leave 5-10mm additional space of the fabric. This additional edges will be visiable at the end of the process. After that you should to turn down the edges, then carefully press the patch with the warm iron.
Now your patch is ready for sewing it on.
Go ahead and put your patch on the right place, then pin it(or chalk outline around the patch) and hem the patch on the fabric or garment.
Then check the result in order to make sure that your patch attached in the right way with no faults. Because later you wouldn't be able to change something. Once you are happy with your job start sewing the patch on, using small stitches again around the edge of the all patch.
Slightly spray a little water on the patch and iron it one more time. Finally ensure that the fabric under the patch didn't wrinkle, also your patch is located on the right place and good looking.

Combo method - hand sew & machine sewing
Needed tools: the scissors, the iron, a piece of chalk, the needle with a thread and sewing machine.
The steps to prepare you patch will be the same as were mentioned above.
Make outline by the chalk around the patch and point out the begin and the end of the sewing machine stitches.
After that turn the patch wrong side out and make straight stitches using sewing machine then bend over the patch around sewing machine seam and finish sewing on patch by hand.
At the result you'll get absolutely invisible sewing machine seam. But keep in mind, this option suitable only for the patches with the straight edges!

Machine sewing
Needed tools: the scissors, the iron, a piece of chalk and sewing machine.
Step first. Trim away the excess of the fabric and turn the edges of the fabric down, keeping 1-2 mm additional space of the fabric.
Catching this fabric space, sew the patch onto the fabric using zig-zag stitches do not letting the machine seam to be put on the patch area.
In order to attach Velcro patches or iron on patches, you need to place the patch in the desired location where you want to sew the patch and then:
➢ No doubt adhesive and termo adhesive film backings speed up work significantly. Patches with these features are attached with the warm iron. You need very carefully press with the iron on the top of the patch and then keep the iron for approximately 20-30 seconds till adhesive or film is melted enough and activate adhesive on the pack of the patch;
➢ In case if you deal with Velcro patches, you need to remove a backing sheet on the back of the patch and adhere the patch to the right place. This type of patches you can attach several times on different locations until adhesive surface will keep it features.

There are a lot of ways to attach patches and your choice will depend on individual prefers and expectations - longevity and security for the items, hard wearing, easiest way to attach or change the patches, the low price and so on.
