Hand cross-stitch embroidery

Cross-stitch embroidery is a cross-cultural ancient craft that remains popular today.

Comparing with machine embroidery hand cross-stitch embroidery is very time consuming, but in fact it is very easy technique.

The whole pattern contains different parts of complex design and the stitcher must create shape and appearance using x-shaped stitches.

Long time ago all materials had rough fabric texture and all fibers can be seen easily. Embroidery crafters in turn counted the number of threads and made x-shaped stitches according to the certain size.

Though machine embroidery has become important tool in the garment industry traditional cross-stitch embroidery technique has remained the same from the ancient times and till nowadays.

Generally, the main point of cross-stitch embroidery method is that the whole pattern is divided into small squares (pixels) and all these squares is filed by cross stitches.

Should be adhered the same common rules to create embroidery pattern both for hand embroidery and machine embroidery:

all stitches, crossing each other, have to put under one single angle and keep one direction.
cross-stitch size in the embroidery pattern must be identical.

Today usual cross-stitch styles are often combined with other types of embroidery techniques. No doubt it wasn't possible for classical cross-stitch methods.

Nowadays cross-stitch embroidery is extremely popular in various craft and fashion projects. You can see it on the embroidered pictures, casual outfits, headwear, different modern and vintage accessories. Simple and affordable machine embroidery technology provides great opportunities for textile embellishment and decoration.
